This film is supposed to be a comedic satire much like Napoleon Dynamite , another film produced by Hess, which takes on a corky and fun spin on the life of Fray Tormenta aka Nacho Libre.
As if Latinas in film are not already under represented the film Nacho Libre also contributes to that under representation and further adds to the ongoing misrepresentation in stereotyping and sexualizing of its only Latina character. Sister Encarnacion, who is a nun in this film, is played by Mexican actress Ana de la Reguera who is not only looked at as a trophy but in the opening scene she is quickly fantasized by the her counterparts.
As she first enters the class room and father Guillermo is introducing her you see a sort of light aura around her as he emphasizes her name and then both father Guilermo and Nacho look up at her in lust. Fast forward to the next scene when Nacho is playing basketball with the orphans and he sees Sister Encarnacion and runs over to her. So how often did you have to stop and re-shoot a scene because Jack was cracking everyone upfi. So I tried to contain it and not laugh. But the hardest part was when you saw the crew laughing.
A little bit. How much is Black Jack worth? How did Nacho Libre die? Who died in the WWE ring? Owen Hart. He is also known for one of the most dramatic deaths in professional wrestling history.
In , Hart's gimmick was a masked superhero known as the Blue Blazer. Which switch is dead? Owen Hart But thanks to a free fall of over 60 feet, Owen fell and died in How do you get through those scenes without constantly laughing on the set? I was just trying to be professional. I was trying to be really focused. It was my first big Hollywood movie, so I wanted to show my best. But sometimes the crew was laughing and it was hard and I had to laugh. When it comes to the comedy genre, there are a lot of different ways a director can make his audience laugh.
What was it about Jared Hess and his style that you liked? I love this type of comedy. I knew when I read the script what it was about. I think I got the part because I knew the comedy they wanted to do. You started acting when you were Did you look up to anyone on television or from movies that made you want to pursue a career in this field or was it more natural for you?
It was just natural. I wanted to be an artist my entire life. I started dancing when I was little. But then I knew I wanted to be an actress. I just knew I liked being on a stage in front of people. I enjoy the attention. You have a long background in Spanish-language soap operas.
What is more exciting — Seeing yourself on the big screen for the first time or seeing yourself on TV for the first time? Everything for the first time is just amazing.
