Report Share. It is a great company that has been ran to the ground by incompetent owners who seem to have forgotten what a music store is all about Sales Associate Current Employee - Miami, FL - October 31, I have worked for this company for quite some time. They respected their employees and cared for them like family. Paul Ash was a heck of a human being Currently they are practically ruining a slave shop.
They used Covid as the excuse to implement cuts in wages that are beyond reasonable I have seen many of my veteran piers leave because they could no longer sustain a family with a close to half reduction in wages.
Pros Currently nothing. Cons Everything. Wonderful company that I was glad to work for. Much better than many of the other music retail locations I have found in my area. The company cares about the customers and the employees. Pros Chance to meet interesting people, music instruments surround you, great discounts.
Cons Workload, cold calling, pay, management, company structure leads to no growth. Typical work day involved daily inventory checks of merchandise for my given department, receiving and packing out of new merchandise top the salesfloor, maintaining store cleanliness, utilizing Salesforce software to keep in contact with customer base by phone and e-mail , tracking orders and checking on status of shipped orders and continue with in-store sales during the day.
New skill learned: Inventory Control and recordkeeping for department through company database and upkeeping of records. Good management team of the store; knowledgeable in the daily operations of the store and fostered a good team environment. Culture in the store was friendly with personnel helping across various departments.
Hardest part of job was handling upset customers who would use the worst profanity-laced diatribes towards me or the Sam Ash company. Overall, both of these stores are very similar regarding the service they provide. If you prefer to purchase your musical equipment in-store, then fair enough. I understand that physically seeing and testing gear is a great way to gauge whether it is the right choice for you.
Of all the online retailers, they offer the most extensive range of instruments and gear. Their website is also very easy to navigate. Sweetwater also produces tons of material and information about every product that they sell. In the current climate, it might a better choice to use an online retailer like Sweetwater.
They set up any of the instruments you buy so that you can use them instantly, and their customer service team is amongst the best in the business. As you can see from the above comparison, Sam Ash and Guitar Center are pretty evenly matched.
Whether you choose to go to one of their stores to buy your equipment or opt for an online option like Sweetwater , I hope you have a positive buying experience! Ross is a music producer, multi-instrumentalist and songwriter. He is the frontman of The Blue Dawns, where he handles vocal and bass duties.
